Biography: Sessions served as Attorney General for the United States from 2017 to 2018, under President Donald Trump. Prior to this he had served as U.S. Attorney in Alabama and then as Senator for Alabama, from 1997 to 2017.
As Senator, Sessions was considered highly conservative, with his voting record going against immigration reform, bank bailouts, etc. He was one of the earliest supporters of Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, following which he was nominated as Attorney General.
Perhaps the most notable aspect of Sessions' time as Attorney General was in his absence, as he recused himself from any involvement in the Russian collusion investigation; it having been discovered that he had met with a Russian ambassador in 2016.
Ultimately Sessions resigned in 2018 at President Trump's request, after conflict over his recusal. After this, Sessions sought to win back his Senate seat in Alabama, however he lost in the primary to a candidate supported by Trump: Tommy Tuberville.
