Biography: Patty Duke was an American actress and, after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1982, was a mental health advocate and public educator. As an actress, Duke won an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, and three Primetime Emmy Awards.

Duke's film career began in earnest at age 15 with her portrayal of Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker (1962). This performance led to her winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She then went on to play a dual role in The Patty Duke Show (1963-1966), as two "identical cousins" named Cathy and Patty Lane.

She went on to play more mature roles, for instances, in Me, Natalie (1969) which won her a Golden Globe. Later Duke would serve for several years at president of the Screen Actors Guild.
