John Curtin

Biography: John Curtin was an Australian politician who served as the 14th Prime Minister of Australia, from 1941 to 1945. He is widely regarded as one of the country's greatest leaders, and played a pivotal role in leading Australia during the Second World War.

Curtin was born in rural Victoria in 1885, and left school at the age of 13 to work in the family business. He later became involved in the labour movement, and was elected to the House of Representatives in 1928. He served as Opposition Leader from 1935 to 1940, before becoming Prime Minister in 1941.

As Prime Minister, Curtin led Australia through some of its darkest days, as the country fought against the Japanese in the Pacific War. He also oversaw the introduction of conscription, and the creation of the Australian Women's Army Service. He died in office in 1945, just months before the end of the war.
