Leon Trotsky

Marxist Revolutionary Leon Trotsky

Full Name: Lev Davidovich Bronshtein
Profession: Marxist Revolutionary

Biography: Leon Trotsky was a Marxist revolutionary, theorist, and Soviet politician who played a crucial role in the Russian Revolution and the early years of the Soviet Union. He was a close associate of Vladimir Lenin and one of the key architects of the October Revolution, which led to the establishment of a socialist government in Russia.

Trotsky held several important positions during his political career, including serving as the People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs and later as the leader of the Red Army during the Russian Civil War. His leadership and strategic acumen were instrumental in the eventual victory of the Bolsheviks over their opponents.

Despite his contributions to the revolution and the formation of the Soviet state, Trotsky's relationship with other Soviet leaders, particularly Joseph Stalin, began to deteriorate after Lenin's death. He was eventually expelled from the Communist Party and exiled from the Soviet Union in the late 1920s due to his opposition to Stalin's policies and increasing control over the party.

While in exile, Trotsky continued to criticize Stalin's regime and advocate for his version of revolutionary socialism, known as Trotskyism. He founded the Fourth International, an organization dedicated to promoting his ideas and opposing Stalinism. Trotsky's life in exile came to a tragic end in 1940 when he was assassinated with an icepick by a Soviet agent in Mexico City.
