Biography: Nora Ephron was born in New York City to playwrights and screenwriters Phoebe and Henry Ephron (Desk Set; Carousel; There's No Business Like Show Business), and raised in Beverly Hills, California.
She began her writing career as a journalist and essayist for the New York Post and Esquire, and then began writing screenplays and novels, such as the drama "Silkwood"', the semi-autobiographical "Heartburn", and the romantic comedy "When Harry Met Sally". These successes led her to expand into directing films including "Sleepless in Seattle", "You've Got Mail". and "Julie & Julia".
She was married three times - to writer Dan Greenburg (1967-76); to Washington Post journalist Carl Bernstein (1976-80); and to novelist-screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi (1987-her death in 2012).
She was diagnosed with leukemia in 2006, but kept the finding secret for fear of it impacting career opportunities.
in 2016 her son Jacob Bernstein premiered a documentary film "Everything Is Copy — Nora Ephron: Scripted & Unscripted" on HBO.
