Biography: Admiral Reinhard Scheer led the German fleet during the Battle of Jutland in 1916, the largest naval battle of WWI. Pitted again Admiral John Jellicoe of the British Grand Fleet, both sides fought a long strategic battle with no obvious winner with brilliant manoeuvres from both sides.

In 1918 Scheer was appointed head of the Supreme Naval Command by the German Kaiser Wilhelm II. Throughout the war he was strong advocate for greater use of submarines in raids and battle. In the dying days of the war he planned another major attack on the British fleet but mass mutinies by German sailors ended these plans.
