Biography: Walter Mittelholzer was a Swiss aviation pioneer, who first earned his pilot's license in 1917. He then founded a photography and passenger flight business, which would after later mergers go on to become Swissair.

Mittelholzer was the first pilot to complete a north-south flight across the whole of Africa, a feat which took him 77 days. He was also the first person to fly over Mount Kilimanjaro, and intended to fly over Mount Everest also in 1930.
