Biography: William Grenville was the son of an earlier British Prime Minister George Grenville (1763-65) and the cousin of William Pitt.
A skilled Whig politician from a young age he became head of the Home Office before becoming Foreign Secretary at age 31 in the tumultuous years that followed the French Revolution.
In 1806, following Pitt's death, King George III asked Grenville to form a government of alliances dubbed "The Ministry of All Talents".
Although Grenville's turn as Prime Minister only lasted a year, his lasting achievement remains heading the legislation that abolished the slave trade in 1807.
