Biography: Comedian Dan Aykroyd was an original cast member and writer for the influential late-night comedy show "Saturday Night Live" (1975-79) alongside Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin and his close friend John Belushi. On the program he was noted for is impersonations of US Presidents Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter, and TV hosts Tom Snyder and Julia Child. He also created the characters of Beldar Conehead and Yortuk Festrunk.
Aykroyd and Belushi developed their Blues Brothers act on Saturday Night Live before performing as a band independently and releasing the best-selling album "Briefcase Full of Blues" in 1978. The cult film "The Blues Brothers" followed in 1980 co-starring Belushi. A follow-up film "Blues Brothers 2000" came out in 1998.
Aykroyd went on to appear in such films as "Trading Places" opposite Eddie Murphy before writing and starring in the mega hit "Ghostbusters" (1984) with Bill Murray and Harold Ramis, which also spawned a sequel.
Aykroyd's film career has been varied ever since. He was nominated for an Academy Award for "Driving Miss Daisy" (1989) and appeared opposite John Cusack in "Grosse Point Blank" (1997).
