Biography: David Hookes was an Australian cricketer, known as an aggressive left-handed batsman. His international career began in 1977 with a success against England, in which he hit five consecutive boundaries against English captain Tony Greig.
Hookes never ended up a staple in the Australian team but he played consistently in domestic cricket, including as captain of the South Australian team.
After retiring in 1992, Hookes pursued a media career and worked as a sportscaster in Melbourne for 3AW radio. Subsequently he was selected as coach of the Victorian cricket team, which he led back to the top of domestic cricket.
