Biography:The author of such children's classics as "Charlotte's Web" (1952) and "Stuart Little" (1945), White was also an influential writer for "The New Yorker" magazine for almost six decades.
In 1959 White was commissioned to update William Strunk Jr.'s "The Elements of Style" and it became a standard work.
White won the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal in 1970 and a special Pulitzer Prize for his body of work in 1978.
