Biography: Hoyt Wilhelm was an American baseball pitcher known for his exceptional skill as a knuckleball specialist. He had a long and storied career, playing for several teams between 1952 and 1972, and is regarded as one of the best relief pitchers in baseball history.

Wilhelm's MLB career began with the New York Giants in 1952, and he quickly gained a reputation for his mastery of the knuckleball. This difficult-to-control pitch baffled opposing hitters and became a key part of his success on the mound.

Over the course of his 21-year career, Wilhelm played for various teams, including the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers. He was named an All-Star five times and played a pivotal role in helping the Baltimore Orioles win the 1958 World Series.

Wilhelm was particularly known for his longevity in the league, pitching effectively well into his late 40s. When he retired at the age of 49, he held the MLB record for most games pitched, with 1,070 appearances.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements, Hoyt Wilhelm was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985.
