Biography: Isaac Hayes was an American musician and composer, best known as a pioneer of Southern soul music at the label Stax Records. He worked there in a successful partnership with David Porter during the mid-1960s. The two were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005 for this work.
Hayes is known in particular for his songwriting, with the song 'Soul Man' going on to be an enduring classic performed by dozens of artists. He is also known for writing the score the film Shaft (1972), which earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
