Profession: Actress
Biography: Joan Collins' long career as an actress began at 17 after training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in the UK. Hollywood Studio 20th Century Fox put her under contract in 1953 and she appeared in films that included "Virgin Queen" (1955) with Bette Davis and the historical epic "Land of the Pharaohs" directed by Howard Hawks.
But it was television that made her a superstar, starring in the glitzy 1980s TV soap "Dynasty" (1981-89) as Alexis Colby alongside John Forsythe and Linda Evans. Collins' portrayal earned her numerous award nominations and she won a Golden Globe in 1983.
Collins is also well known for her support of a number of children's charities including the International Foundation for Children with Learning Disabilities. It was for her work with these that she was named a Dame in Queen Elizabeth II's 2015 New Years' Honours List.
