Biography: John Goodman is best known for his role as Dan Conner on the sitcom "Roseanne" from 1988 to 1997 and again in 2018. He has also had a successful film career, often collaborating with the Coen brothers in movies such as "Raising Arizona" (1987), "The Big Lebowski" (1998), and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" (2000).

Goodman was born and raised in Missouri. He earned a degree in theater from Missouri State University in 1975 before moving to New York City to pursue acting. After initial struggles, he found work in commercials, voice-overs, and theater.

In addition to "Roseanne" and his Coen brothers films, Goodman has appeared in numerous other movies and TV shows. Notable roles include "The Flintstones" (1994), "10 Cloverfield Lane" (2016), "Treme" (2010-2011), and "The Righteous Gemstones" (2019-present). He has also done extensive voice acting, including in the "Monsters, Inc." and "The Emperor's New Groove" franchises.

On stage, Goodman has appeared on and off-Broadway. His Broadway debut was in "Big River" in 1985. Later roles included "Waiting for Godot" in 2009 with Nathan Lane and Bill Irwin.

Goodman has been open about his struggles with alcoholism and depression, having been sober since 2007 and regularly attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Through diet and exercise, he has also lost a significant amount of weight in recent years.

Goodman is married to Annabeth Hartzog with whom he has one daughter. He has also been involved in philanthropy, particularly in efforts to help after Hurricane Katrina and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
