His stage name was formed by combining and juxtaposing the names of two American cultural icons, actress Marilyn Monroe and criminal Charles Manson.
Manson has had a successful musical career, with nine studio albums and multiple successful singles. His debut album, Portrait of an American Family (1994), was followed by Antichrist Superstar (1996) and Mechanical Animals (1998).
