Biography: Shemp Howard was an American actor and comedian best known as one of the Three Stooges, alongside his brothers Moe Howard and Curly Howard.
Shemp's career in show business began in the early 1920s when he joined Ted Healy's vaudeville act with his brother Moe and childhood friend Larry Fine. In 1930, they made their first film appearance in Soup to Nuts (1930). However, Shemp left the group in 1932 to pursue a solo career, and his younger brother Curly stepped in to replace him.
Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Shemp appeared in numerous comedy shorts and feature films, working with prominent comedians like Fatty Arbuckle, W.C. Fields, and Abbott and Costello. His solo career saw moderate success, but it was his return to the Three Stooges in 1946 that cemented his legacy. He returned when Curly fell sick, and continued after his death.
