Biography: Colbert rose to fame began as a correspondent on The Daily Show, before he was given his own role hosting a satirical news show with The Colbert Report from 2005 to 2014, where he played a character that satirized conservative media pundits. His success in this role led to an appearance at the 2006 White House Correspondents Dinner which was highly controversial for its searing routine targeting President George W. Bush, sitting a few feet away, and the media.

After leaving that show he became the host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, succeeding David Letterman. He wrote a best-selling book I Am America (And So Can You!) in 2007. In 2012 he famously started a Super PAC (political action committee) which raised over a million dollars and increased public awareness about the role of PACs in American political campaigns.
