Biography: Ted Cruz is an American politician currently serving as United States senator from Texas. He has been involved in several high-profile controversies and legislative battles, including the 2013 government shutdown and the 2020 presidential election certification.

After moving to Houston, Texas, in 1974, Cruz excelled academically, becoming valedictorian of his high school before studying at Princeton University and Harvard Law School.

His legal career began with clerkships for Judge J. Michael Luttig and Chief Justice William Rehnquist, leading to positions in private practice and the George W. Bush administration. As Texas Solicitor General (2003-2008), Cruz argued before the Supreme Court nine times.
